Thank you for the music: former pupils of Castle High School in Kenilworth have paid tribute to a popular teacher from Leamington who lived to 102

Dorothy Wyld, who lived in Lillington, Leamington, died peacefully at Warwick Hospital in the hours between Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th of January.

She is fondly remembered by many ex-pupils who are members of a private Castle High School Facebook page.

She was also a long-standing member at St Mary Magdalene's church near her home.

The former pupils remember Miss Wyld as an outstanding music teacher.

One said she was "a wonderful lady who gave so many young people a love of music.

"I'm so grateful for her attention."

Another said: "God bless you Dot.

"You taught me so much.

"I never have [forgotten] and never will forget you ."

And another added; "Remembering fondly her lessons ... singing Puppet on a String, telling us that Frank Ifield and Julie Andrews were the only people to be able to yodel outside of Switzerland - not sure this is factually correct - and being in the choir."

Dorothy's great niece Sara Bagley has said: "Dorothy was very independent and lived on her own right up until she passed away.

"She was born in Stourbridge in the West Midlands.

"As an only child she moved with her parents to Leamington aged about 30 when her dad got a new job on the railways.

"She trained to be a secondary school teacher and taught music and then French.

"She was a keen piano player and would entertain guests at her house with her musical ability when they came round.

"She had a keen interest in France.

"She kept up her coversational French well into her 90s and enjoyed reading all the French fashion magazines as she had a love of fashion and clothes.

"Being smartly dressed was very important to Dorothy.

"She was a keen Bridge Player and belonged to a group who would meet up and play Bridge every week at her house.

"She loved to travel every school holiday.

"She would travel all around France with her partner Ernest, who was also a school teacher.

"They loved spending as much time as they could in the south of France, Nice, Cannes and Menton.

"Dorothy was an unusually kind, generous, intelligent and a positive lady.

"She had many friends and relatives around the world.

"She will be very much missed by myself and her very many close friends."
