A temporary classroom will be in place by September at an expanding Warwick primary school.

The plans for Heathcote School, in Vickers Way, were approved remotely by councillors at this week’s regulatory meeting of Warwickshire County Council.

The virtual meeting was also screened live.

Councillors were told that the building, which can accommodate 30 pupils, was needed because the construction of a school extension had been delayed due to the pandemic.

It was now hoped that the new permanent classrooms would be completed by October’s half-term holiday.

In her report, planning officer Sally Panayi explained that permission was sought for the temporary classroom for 12 months or until building work was finished, whichever came first.

She added that Heathcote School opened with eight classrooms in September 2017 and that its expansion triggered the phase two development which will add a further eight classrooms.

It is expected that September’s Year 4 class will be taught in the temporary classroom.

There were no objections to the plans and councillors voted unanimously to approve the scheme.
