But there was disappointment for town’s American football club and also a school group seeking help with putting on a pantomime.

Members of this week’s (June 1) cabinet meeting of Rugby Borough Council supported a range of schemes put forward by the grants working party with organisations applying for a slice of £63,410 which was split between community project grants of up to £2,000 and rural development funding of up to £10,000.

Thirty-three organisations applied with the working party making their recommendations at the end of May.

Illustrator Emily Honey secured £2,000 to fund her art workshops for 16 to 24-year-olds in the borough and Rugby Golf Club will be handed £1,250 to pay for their plans to introduce golf to a new generation.

Draycote Water Sailing Club and Rugby Canoe Club were among the other successful organisations but nothing was allocated to Rugby Rhinos American Football Club who were looking for a grant to purchase equipment for young players. The pantomime plans of the Friends of Long Lawford Schools were also hit.

Three awards were made under the rural development fund the largest of which was £9,999 to Pailton Village Trust who will use the money to improve and install equipment at the village playground. Bids from Monks Kirby Parish Council, Newton and Biggin Parish Council and Withybrook Village Hall were also successful.
