Organisers said they have had to make the difficult decision about the charity event because of the pandemic.

They said that 'the necessary requirements to maintain social distancing for the audience, volunteers and performers, would compromise the event quality and commercial viability too much for them to proceed'.

The annual event held at Warwick Castle is organised by a committee of volunteers from five charity partners; The Rotary Club of Warwick, Warwick Lions Club, The Friends of St Marys Choir, Royal Spa Brass and Merlin’s Magic wand and raises funds for many local good causes.

Roy Glassborow, chair of Carols at the Castle committee, said: "We appreciate how disappointing this news is for our many loyal supporters in the local community and beyond and intend that this prudent action by the organising committee will mean we can produce a very successful event next year, which will be particularly significant as it represents our 50th anniversary.

"Thank you all for your continued support of our wonderful festive evening, we look forward to welcoming you back next year."

The organisers would like to thank Warwick Castle which continues to support the event and has already agreed to set the date for the next Carols at the Castle on Saturday December 18 2021.
