Now Belmont Healthcare have submitted plans to Warwick District Council's planning portal for a 75-bed complex.

Access to the site would be via the roundabout on Birmingham Road and there would be 27 parking spaces.

There would also be new footpaths created on the site to Hatton Locksto the south.

According to the planning documents the site is located in Green Belt and in the Canal Conservation Area.

Despite these factors the care home company believes that 'any harm arising from the development is outweighed by Very Special Circumstances unique to this development proposal'.

In the planning documents it says 'the proposed scheme can demonstrate Very Special Circumstances that can be considered to outweigh the harm attributed to the proposed development'.

The company sites; the need for elderly accommodation, a lack of alternative sites, limited impact of the proposal on the Green Belt and public access to Hatton Locks and the Canal.

Some objections have been lodged on the planning portal against the plans.

In the objections people were concerned about issues such as the closeness of the development to the canal, extra traffic which will be caused by another housing development nearby and concerns about the lack of parking and Hatton Park being turned into an 'overflow car park'.

Adam Hutchison, managing director at Belmont Healthcare, said: "Following the consultation which took place online due to the current circumstances we were pleasantly surprised with the feedback on the care home application and have considered all of the points raised - a comment from the local residents included 'I am very much for the development, it looks lovely'.

"We are delighted to have got the full planning stage on this scheme and are excited to hear the feedback from the planning department.

"We appreciate the scale of the building but feel that this will offer a great service for the local community supporting those who need supportive care.

"The care home will not only provide specialist care for the elderly but also rehabilitation services, treatment and spa facilities and a wonderful setting for those who wish to have respite and recovery services in care."
