Leamington supermarket gives out 'seeds of hope' to help people connect with nature

Schoolchildren, care home residents and members of community groups have all been planting the sunflower seeds which have been given to them for free by Morrisons

Morrisons stores including the Leamington branch have given away 2.5 million sunflower seeds in an effort to spread hope and lift the spirits of the nation.

Sunflowers seeds have been planted by care home residents, schoolchildren and community group members in and around Leamington thanks to a national campaign which a supermarket in the town is taking part in.

Morrisons, which has a branch in Old Warwick Road, has been distributing the free Seeds of Hope in and around the town.

Among those to benefit were residents of Cubbington Mill Care Home, who spent spent an afternoon potting their seeds to mark National Gardening Week a few weeks ago.

Activities coordinator Hannah Fawcett said “It has been brilliant linking these two projects together, honouring the Royal Horticulture Society and our local Morrisons.

"Residents certainly have had their daily dose of ‘Vitamin G’ along with social time with friends and a welcome slice of cake and cup of tea to follow.”

Alexandra Pearson, the Morrisons Leamington Community Champion, said: "We are able to bring colour to people, a sunflower makes us all feel warm inside and we all need to have colour in our lives after a hard year and a cold winter.
