The Angel hotel in Regent Street began taking bookings again after the government green light and was inundated with enquiries from friends and family of NHS workers looking to book short breaks after such a stressful period.

The 150-year-old family business has now revised its charging policy in light of this, with anyone in possession of an NHS ID being given access to a 50% room rate reduction for the duration of their stay.

Director Dan Clifford said: “Once we started getting calls from people wanted to book rooms as treats for people working in the NHS who have been working so hard in this time we realised that we should make it as accessible as possible.

“We have recently invested over £250,000 refurbishing the hotel and creating new premium deluxe bedrooms with flat-screen TVs, air conditioning and state-of-the-art facilities such as touch technology and rainfall showers.

“At the weekend we will be allocating some of the new NHS room rate on a first come first served basis and will offer the reduced as a small 'thank you' for the amazing work that these people do.”

The Angel Hotel has used the closure period as time to further improve its facilities including its outdoor terrace, upgraded toilet facilities and car park.

Although the period has been a challenging one for all businesses, Mr Clifford is hoping that Leamington people and businesses will rally together.

He said: “It is very sad to see that many businesses won’t reopen and we certainly feel for those people – if any local businesses think we can help them then should contact us.

“We are hoping that Leamington people might encourage friends and family to visit this beautiful area and stay with us and give us a fighting chance of recovery some of the lost trade.

“This will allow us to preserve jobs and keep a building and business in Leamington that is one of the town’s old institutions.”
