Kenilworth Scout group 'elated' to be able to offer Christmas card delivery service again this year

The group faced uncertainty as to whether the annual service would be able to go ahead due to the pandemic

A Christmas card delivery service held annually by a Kenilworth scout group has now been launched.

The 4th Kenilworth Scouts are continuing with their delivery service to residents of Kenilworth and Leek Wootton, which they have done for 33 years.

This year the group faced uncertainty as to whether the service would be able to go ahead due to the pandemic but have said that they are 'elated' to be able to offer the service once again after going through all the assessments.

Nick Schofield, Group Scout Leader, said: "This is a key fundraiser for us as we’ve been unable to do our usual fundraisers throughout the year.

"We are a very active group and hope to get back to normal in the new year.

"This is an approved event from the Scouting Association and the all the elements have been adapted to comply with national Covid-19 (tier 3) regulations.

"We’re relieved and elated that we can go ahead this year."

The service was officially launched on Saturday (December 5) with post boxes being delivered to businesses that will be acting as weekday collection points.

Collection points will be at; Farthing Gallery in High Street, GDT Automobiles in Caesar Road, Leyes Lane Pharmacy in Leyes Lane, Kenilworth Books in Talisman Square, Steve Crowe Butchers in Whitemoor Road and All Saints Church in Leek Wootton.

The last collection date for the business-based boxes will be Friday, December 18.

The 4th Kenilworth Scouts will also be holding a collection stall in Talisman Square on Saturday, December 12 and Saturday, December 19 from 9am to 3pm.

The cost is 25p per card, and delivery will be from Sunday December 20.

Nick added: "We normally run the Christmas post longer than this but we had to wait for a Covid risk assessment by the Scouts Association.

"This year we will accept cash but won't be able give any change and all money is put in pots by the boxes. Excess payments will be treated as donations.

"We were very saddened to think we might not be able to do this again this year but we are delighted we can. Our volunteers, which includes the scouts and parents, all galvanised to go at full speed to be ready.

"It is full speed ahead and we are offering the community the service we have always done - it's all go."
