Residents and workers at a later living community in Heathcote in Warwick have found ways to continue their choir sessions.

During lockdown residents and members of the Austin Heath village team have enjoyed virtual choir meetings, sing-alongs on their patios and balconies.

More recently as government lockdown rules have eased, ‘socially distanced’ choir meet-ups have now started, with choir members meeting outside in Austin Heath’s spacious grounds and singing together while still observing the 2m distancing rule.

The choir, which began last year, has around 12 members, including residents aged between 55 and 92, who sing together each week.

Village manager Alison Harrison said: “The choir is part of our continued drive to boost the mental and physical wellbeing of the whole Austin Heath community – both the residents and the staff.

“We have utilised every opportunity to sing and every session has been fantastic. The buzz created is wonderful and everyone absolutely loves it.

“What’s so wonderful is that you don’t have to be able to sing a note to take part – it’s for anyone.

"Plus, the repertoire is broad, so there’s something for everyone, recently we’ve been singing lots of 1950s and ‘60s songs.

“The weekly sessions have become even more important during lockdown as they have given us all something to look forward and a chance to meet up and chat, at a distance of course.”

“Throughout the pandemic we have been going above and beyond to ensure residents feel happy and healthy, this stretches from socially distanced exercise classes to balcony singing and enjoying meal deliveries from the village chef.”
