Frontline doctor and former Warwick School head boy praised by Health Secretary Matt Hancock for using DJ and music skills to lift people's spirits

A frontline doctor and former Warwick School pupil has been praised by the Health Secretary for using his DJ and music skills to lift people's spirits.

Award-winning DJ Kishan Bodalia, also known as DJ Bodalia, has received special thanks from UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock for his initiative 'NHSessions' aimed at boosting morale through music, during the toughest times of the pandemic.

NHSessions were launched following the outbreak of coronavirus, by the 26-year-old junior doctor who performs DJ sets in his scrubs from his kitchen to lift spirits of his NHS colleagues, by collaborating with influencers on livestreams.

Many celebrities have taken to social media to show their support to Bodalia and to recommend their “NHSessions Track of the Day” to give the British public a song to listen to, to help them through lockdown.

Mr Hancock who has sent a personal message of thanks to the inspiring DJ, said: "I want to say a massive thank you to NHSessions, a brilliant initiative set up by frontline NHS doctor DJ Bodalia."

After praising Bodalia’s efforts, Mr Hancock then introduced “Non-Stop” from the Broadway musical “Hamilton” as his track of the day for NHSessions.

Bodalia said: "I am so flattered to hear that the Health Secretary is a fan and that the project has received such recognition.

"I set up NHSessions during the first lockdown to lift the spirits of my NHS colleagues and the nation as a whole. I just want to help everyone dance, exercise, and above all, smile."

The project has inspired millions on television, radio and online, and has also received support from some of the biggest names in dance music including Radio 1’s MistaJam, Danny Howard, Example and Jonas Blue.

Bodalia, who has recently been redeployed onto an intensive care unit said: “I feel overwhelmed by the support and want to keep sharing amazing music with as many people as possible.

“My music has been used by patients in ITU to motivate them during their rehabilitation.

"Music has saved me during the darkest times and I want to keep spreading these good vibes”.
