A mud-splattered chain of 115 cyclists – including a family from Kenilworth - sprung into gear to complete the scenic Acorns Severn Valley Cycle challenge raising over £15,000 for local children with life limiting conditions.

Participants chose either a ten or 20-mile route, both winding their way through the picturesque Severn Valley to the finish line in Bewdley on Sunday. Some stopped off for a picnic whilst others charged on ahead, completing the challenge in record personal times.

It was the first event for Acorns for the Davis family of Kenilworth, Tom, 19, Jack, 15, and dad Nigel, who said: “It’s a beautiful ride.”

The cyclists then took a steam train ride journey back to the starting point, celebrating their achievement and soaking up the scenic surroundings in style.

Lucy Shepherd, international treks and challenges officer at Acorns said: “It was a brilliant day and we were thrilled to see such a great turn out of people supporting Acorns.

“The fantastic amount of funds pledged will directly help life limited children and their families in the area by paying for vital care and support services.”

Acorns provides its services to families free of charge but it does cost £750 per child per day.

Lucy added: “We would love to hear from anyone wanting to support Acorns and looking to have fun and get fit. There are still spaces in the Midnight Walk (September 15) and the Great Birmingham Run (October 21).
