Why I wear my poppy

My father was in the Grenadier Guards when war was declared and saw action right through the war. One of the last men evacuated from Dunkirk, he went on to fight in North Africa and Italy. He always kept a photograph of his comrades in his wallet, until the day he died. He never forgot and neither shall we.

At the age of 90, my father needed help. The British Legion came to his aid, enabling him to spend his last years in the Galanos House British Legion Care Home in Southam, where he was cared for with dignity, love and compassion. My mother is still there.

Our family have always bought a poppy on Remembrance Day. We wear it with pride, in gratitude and in Remembrance.
