There are several alternatives

There are, of course, a couple of alternatives to this ill-thought out proposal.

Firstly, if Riverside House is too big to house the district council on its own, then the surplus space could surely be leased to another organisation. This would put the building back to full use, and generate income for the council. This would also spare the land to the front of the Spa Centre from having, what could be, a monstrous carbuncle built on it for ever more.

Secondly, if Warwick District Council is shrinking, then perhaps it should sell Riverside House, and move into the Warwick County Council buildings in Warwick town centre?

This second proposal would also enable a harmonious move to a unitary council authority (district council and county council combined) in the future, operating from a single location – that is of course if such a thing were ever to be considered. This would save money in the long run and streamline both organisations into a sleek and efficient authority for the future!

However, then again, looking at the green space outside the front of the Spa Centre, I’d say it was ripe for development!

Next stop - the concreting over of Jephson Gardens, and the conversion of the Pump Rooms into a multi-storey car park!
