Roads not suited to heavy lorries

I was troubled to read the report in last week’s Courier detailing deteriorating air quality in Leamington. This problem will surely be compounded if, as reported, heavy HS2 construction traffic starts to wind its way through our already congested streets in a few years’ time.

Our local roads are totally unsuitable for such traffic. The noise and vibration will be significant. Furthermore, as heavy lorries begin to navigate their way through our town it will become impossible to encourage individuals and families to cycle more to help improve air quality.

The business case for HS2 has fallen apart. Leamington does not need HS2. Nor, as more and more senior politicians acknowledge, does the UK. The sooner the Government ditches this white elephant, the better.
