People power played its part

I was astonished to read the letter headlined ‘Encouraged by plan’s vision’ (Courier last week).

I could not believe the print before my eyes. It states that the Conservatives have taken responsibility for the St Mary’s Lands plan. So what about the 1,200 local residents who objected to this plan?

By signing the petition, 500 signatures were required for this issue to be debated publicly before any decision was made. In fact, 1,200 were obtained. What has happened to democracy? The Warwick district executive has now made a decision on this plan.

The debate is now going to be held after the executive has already made its decision. Another fine mess!

Let’s hope the local residents remember this, come the elections in May 2015
