Losing this asset would be shameful

I read the latest article on the current issues surrounding the Old Library with interest.

Having seen the plans myself, I entirely concur with the viewpoint of the Bath Place management and am resolutely opposed to seeing such an important part of Leamington’s public heritage sacrificed for the private gain of Mr Tate and his development company.

I am aware of the excellent work that goes on there and also of the long history of service that both Bath Place and the building have put in for the benefit of the wider community for many years. It would seem to be a match made in heaven.

That Warwick District Council has been covertly supporting this project and stands to gain from the closing of what is essentially the largest community centre in the district is wholly shameful and to read Mr Tate quoted as telling BPCV that it needs to “move on” is quite literally, unbearable.

Is Leamington to let one of its finest institutions be bullied by the arrogance and acquisitiveness of a developer who, from what I can discover, does not even live locally ?

If so, things have come to a very sad pass indeed. - Henry J. Viner, Clarendon Square, Leamington
