I urge you all to oppose slipway plans

In response to Roger Clay’s letter (Courier, July 29). When the M40 motorway was built over the River Avon, no risks were raised by the Department of Transport relating to an emergency situation. Warwick University rowing club, also has not raised any risk about safety while training on the River Avon, as they have their own support boat.

The time to get a rescue boat, drive to the field entrance on the A429, then across a field and finally launch it in the River Avon would provide no benefit in an emergency. If the emergency committee has such concerns, why don’t they get a list of residents with boats on the river who would volunteer for any so called emergency. This would be much more effective.

In conclusion, I would urge that this slipway is not supported due to the detrimental effect to the wildlife on this beautiful unspoilt part of the river and to the total lack of control over what type of boat and number which could be launched. - Rosemary Lloyd, Barford.
