Have urban foxes killed my cat?

Are our pet cats in danger of being killed by the growing number of urban foxes in the area?

I live near to the Midland Oak tree park. We have two female cats that are sisters, Moon and Star. They are nearly three years old. Moon has been missing since Saturday August 18. I am aware of a local fox that I see sometimes strolling in the daylight as well as in the darkness. Star was attacked by something a couple of months back; she had a very nasty cut at the top of her tail close to her back. The vet told me it looked like she tried to get away from something bigger than her and was either bitten or clawed. I have no proof that it was a fox. However a week or two later I opened the living room curtains one morning and there was a fox in our garden.

I have been out late two nights running looking for Moon, calling her with the noise that we use to call them in. The first night I sighted what I think was the same fox four times and a bigger fox once. This last night I could not believe my eyes as I spotted four different foxes close by each other and another screeching in the distance.

I came home deflated. Again I have no proof the foxes may have taken Moon, but what chance has a domestic cat against a skulk of foxes? I have always been against fox hunting, but when one is directly affected by this I feel something has to be done. I do not know what exactly. What I do know is Star sits in the garden waiting for her sister and my children pray to God that she returns. - Gary Timlin, address supplied.
