Cut back council pen pushers

I would first like to point out to Cllr Alan Boad (‘£300,000 savings on cost of on street parking’, Courier last week) that without the shop workers that he refers to supposedly taking up “all the parking spaces”, there would be no shops.

No shops, no town, no need for anyone to go to town, and therefore nobody to pay extortionate parking charges.

There are more shop workers employed in town centres (the majority of which earn approximately only £12,000 per annum before tax) than there are traffic wardens and council executives. Shop workers form part of the private sector, which can no longer afford to pay for our over heavy public service.

We need our hospitals, police, teachers, and emergency services but we should seriously consider cutting back on pen-pushing civil servants. We should start with our local councils thus a few sacrificed to coincidently save£300,000.

These savings would enable free parking for all, and the suffering town centre businesses would be able to compete with the retail and business parks.

Did I hear someone volunteer then?

No doubt there will be some kind of clever response justifying the extortionate salaries we pay these public servants.
