Council HQ plan poses questions

I have lived opposite the Spa Centre for over 30 years.

During this time I have seen the trees planted in front of it mature and be given a preservation order. They enhance the grassy open space which allows people to mingle before and after shows and the circular drive allows people to be dropped off, and picked up for shows and provides some parking.

On the town plan this open space has the same protection as the Jephson Gardens, this was not even mentioned at the council meeting which I attended. Can the council please explain why they are even considering building on it in contravention of their own rules?

One councillor asked for the decision to be postponed for alternatives sites to be considered. What existing empty buildings have been considered? And why were brownfield sites, such as the Covent Garden car park, ruled out?

Would Chris Elliott, chief executive of WDC, please answer these questions and explain how the town centre will cope with the extra demand for parking spaces?
