Car park plans defy logic

I am writing to endorse Sue Butcher’s (Chair of Warwick Chamber of Commerce) comments within your recent article regarding the proposal to develop half of the West Rock car park in Warwick with affordable housing.

It seems to defy logic that the Warwick District Council in conjunction with Waterloo Housing are seeking to build on half of this car park.

I think that the need for affordable housing can be understood by everyone but surely not at the expense of valuable car parking space so close to the centre of Warwick. The need is surely for more car parking space with the housing developments taking place in the Warwick area. It is understood that Waterloo already have the old fire station and gas works sites close to the centre of Warwick.

Also, what on earth has this proposed development anything to do with the Warwick Town Centre Action Plan? Any new buildings were to be in keeping with the historic heritage of Warwick, instead we are putting up low cost blocks of flats! It does always seem to be our local authority that put up buildings to the detriment of the town centre. Are we planning on reducing car parking spaces so that residents/tourists visiting our town find it even more difficult to park? Are we really trying to increase custom to our town?
