Bringing balance to county council

I am writing on behalf of the Warwick Branch of the Labour Party to thank everyone involved in getting two of our members elected to serve North and West wards on Warwickshire County Council. The biggest thanks, however, must go to the residents of these two wards who, by voting for Jenny St John and John Holland, have chosen to put their trust in candidates who will fight for them to ensure fairness and compassion in these difficult times.

Voting in local elections is all too often dismissed as a comment on how the electorate feels about the national government. No more than a protest perhaps, but your vote is much more important than that. It lets you choose who you consider will best listen to your concerns, look after your interests where you live, work, bring up your children, spend your retirement.

The new Labour councillors, including the two from Warwick, will bring a much fairer balance to the county council chamber giving the good people of Warwickshire the opportunity to decide their priorities not told what they should be.

We have had consultation after consultation on important issues, no doubt at considerable cost, but all to no avail, the public view dismissed, fire station, police station closed, chaotic traffic schemes introduced. All for our own good in the long run mind you.

The Prime Minister promised change and oh boy, things have certainly changed.

The results from this election have set the winds of change for the better in motion.

The Labour team in Warwick, councillors and members, promise to listen to your views, concerns, or issues you may wish to raise, then ensure they find their way to the people who make the decisions that affect your lives.

Currently, Warwick has no Labour councillors on Warwick District Council and only three on the town council. We want to earn your trust and show that we will act on your behalf so that come the next local and general elections in 2015, you will want to vote for us.

Thank you once again and please do not forget to keep in touch with your Labour councillors, they are there to serve you.

Roger Smith, Warwick Branch Labour Party
