Attack on Coppola doesn’t say much for promoting town

I applaud your correspondent who last week jumped to the defence of La Coppola restaurant in the light of the latest attack by the planning committee of Warwick District Council.

This establishment has brought first class quality in its appearance, food and service since it first came to the town, yet it appears to constantly being pursued by planners under the pretext of preserving the nature and historic influence of the buildings in the area. If these so-called planners have such a dedicated interest in the delights of the regency appearance of the town, they should certainly remove their blinkers and look at some of the other hideous examples of visual vandalism that pervade the town centre.

It must be agreed that certain rules have to be followed to ensure that things do not get out of hand, but those rules should apply to all.

The décor to the front of this building has been tastefully carried out and serves to enhance the appearance of the area, and it is just a pity that the awnings that were previously part of the building had to be removed under the ruling of these same planners.

One cannot but wonder whether there is an intention to drive one of the best restaurants in the locality out of town by petty bureaucracy.
