One punch leaves man fighting for life in coma

A LEAMINGTON student has launched a heartfelt appeal in efforts to support a friend who is fighting for his life after being attacked outside a nightclub.

Twenty-year-old Simon Warren is currently on a life support machine at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol after being punched to the head outside Moo Moo’s in Cheltenham in the early hours of last Tuesday. He had not been drinking on the night as he had driven to the club.

An 18-year-old man has been charged with causing grevious bodily harm in connection with the incident and is due to appear before magistrates next month.

Simon’s close friend and fellow Warwickshire Young Farmers’ member Laura Woodfield, who studies at Warwickshire College’s Leamington centre and regularly socialises in Leamington with Simon, has launched a campaign to raise awareness of the attack - which is believed to have been unprovoked - and to help raise funds to support Simon and his family.

She said: “Simon was always on the go. This accident will be devastating to him.

“It was one single punch and this is what happened.

“We don’t know the reason behind their attack.

“We won’t know if he has suffered brain damage until he wakes up.”

Simon, who lives in Shipston-on-Stour, works in Tesco in Stratford and is known to many around Leamington as he regularly meets friends in the town.
