Double tragedy for family of Southam couple who both died as the result of road crashes

The family of a Southam woman who died after she was hit by a van has paid tribute to her.

Susan Collins, aged 65, died last Thursday following the collision in Coventry Road on December 30.

Her daughter Lorna Kermode, said: “The family has been left heartbroken by the loss of our mum. She showed great strength and courage and we are simply devastated to be without her. We are extremely proud to call her ours and take comfort in the fact she is now reunited with our dad.”

Sgt Richard Toms of Warwickshire Police said: “This was a tragic incident in which a woman lost her life, and our thoughts go out to Susan’s family and friends at this sad time. We ask that their privacy is respected at this difficult time.”.

Mrs Collins was the wife of 62-year-old motorcyclist Paul Collins, a civilian crime support manager for Warwickshire Police who died in a crash the A422 Banbury Road, near Ettington,in December 2011. At the time, the family said: “Our family has been left truly devastated by the loss of Paul. He was our rock and without him his wife, daughters, son-in-law and grandchildren’s lives will never be the same again.

“We are immensely proud to have been part of his life and will continue to remember the loving, warm and inspirational man he was.

“Words cannot express how grateful we are for the support we are receiving from friends, family and all of his work colleagues past and present, especially Warwickshire Police.”
