Myton Hospices appoint new Chief Executive Officer

Ruth joined Myton in 2006 as Director of Fundraising and has been acting CEO since November 2015 when former CEO, Kate Lee, left Myton to join the national children and young people’s cancer charity, CLIC Sargent, after four successful years with Myton.

With over 30 years’ experience in the charity sector and an in-depth understanding of how Myton operates from almost ten years with the charity, Ruth is ideally placed to lead the implementation of Myton’s new five year strategy and deliver ambitious growth plans which include extending the charity’s reach and ensuring that all services and facilities are used to maximum capacity.

Ruth’s track record at Myton is impressive and has seen her develop a successful Income Generation team which has increased the charity’s annual income from less than £3 million per annum to £8 million.

In addition Ruth’s team completed a £7 million appeal to build the Coventry Myton Hospice, enabling Myton to now provide palliative and end-of-life care to 1,000 patients throughout Coventry and Warwickshire annually.

Thanks to Ruth’s hard work, the number of Myton charity shops across the region has increased from 11 to 20 and an Ebay shop has been established. Ruth also helped to expand Myton’s Lottery, now the largest hospice lottery in the UK.

Ruth said: “I am thrilled to take on the role of CEO because I passionately believe in what we do and am 100% committed to Myton’s future. I have invested so much in the organisation over the last nine years and am very proud of what we’ve managed to achieve.

“I’m stepping in to the role at an exciting time as we have our new and enthusiastic Senior Leadership Team in place, as well as a hugely supportive board of trustees and our new Chairman, Noel Hunter.

“I have a very clear vision for Myton’s future. We must endeavour to understand the needs, preferences and wishes of all of the people who need palliative and end-of-life care across Coventry and Warwickshire – both now and in the future – so that we can develop services that are tailored to

really meet their needs.

“We must extend our reach and ensure that wherever people live within our community or whatever illness they are coping with, they have equal and early access to our services.

“To achieve all of this will require securing more support from the public and ensuring that all of our services are cost-effective and provide excellent value for money.”

Chairman, Noel Hunter, added: “We’re delighted to welcome Ruth to the key role of CEO at Myton. She has played a fundamental role in the Senior Leadership Team which has overseen many developments over the last nine years, and we’re very confident of her ability to embrace the opportunities and tackle the challenges that lie ahead for Myton.”

Ruth is 56 years old and lives with her husband in Birmingham. She has been married to Mark for 37 years and they have three grown up children and Molly the dog. Outside of work, Ruth enjoys shopping, travelling, reading and watching films.
