Myton Hospice charity shop rises from the ashes

JUST over three months ago, it was gutted by a fire that damaged several Leamington shops.

But now Myton Hospice’s shop in Warwick Street, Leamington, is ready for business once again.

Staff and volunteers have been busy putting the finishing touches together, ready for the reopening today (Friday) at 10am

The store has been closed since May 25 when a blaze which started in a neighbouring building caused more than £30,000 worth of damage.

It destroyed the store room and caused smoke damage throughout.
It has been a long three months for the charity which has had the difficult job of replacing £8,000 worth of donated stock.
Retail and merchandising manager Steve McArthur said: “We are delighted to be reopening the shop and would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported us during this difficult time and kindly donated items to help restock the store and get it ready to reopen.

“We couldn’t have done this without the loyal support of the local community and would like to let everyone know we have now reopened.”

The store is Myton’s oldest and celebrated its 20th anniversary shortly before the fire.

In June, the charity opened a second Leamington branch in Bedford Street bringing the total to 18 across Coventry and Warwickshire.
Listeners to BBC Coventry and Warwickshire have also shown their support through the station’s Don’t Dump It, Donate It appeal and were encouraged to give unwanted items to help restock the Warwick Street shop.

The charity is working with the station until October as part of their 12-month BBC Coventry and Warwickshire Myton Nurse Appeal to help raise money for new nurses.
Myton needs to raise £7.2 million a year to keep its services running and is always looking for shop volunteers.
