Military historians from Warwick and Walton attend unveiling of Christmas Truce memorial in Belgium

Military historians Alan Reed and Sir Andrew Hamilton (pictured) were invited to St Yvon in Belgium last month to attend the unveiling of a monument which commemorates the Christmas Truce of the First World War in 1914.

The monument, unveiled by UEFA president Michel Platini, is located near No Man’s Land where the Royal Warwicks and Saxons fraternised over Christmas.

Sir Andrew’s grandfather Capt Robert Hamilton’s diary caused much interest amongst the international media present.

Mr Reed, of Warwick, and Sir Andrew, of Walton, have published several books on the war.
