Men jailed after loaded gun was found in car on M1 in Warwickshire

Aram Ahmed, 35 from Chervil Rise, Wolverhampton, is believed to have been driving from London on Thursday, May 7 2015 when Warwickshire Police officers stopped the Vauxhall Vectra on the M1 motorway near to Rugby.

Inside the boot of the vehicle was a loaded pistol with a silencer. It contained six 9mm bullets within the magazine.

Ahmed was arrested and as the investigation continued Araz Mohammedi, 20 from Springfield Road in Wolverhampton, was also found to have been involved.

Mohammedi’s DNA was found on the pistol and CCTV showed him in the same vehicle travelling down to London.

Following Mohammedi’s arrest a search was carried out at his premises and a quantity of heroin was seized.

Following a two-week trial, Aram Ahmed and Araz Mohammedi were both sentenced at Stafford Crown Court last Thursday (February 18), after being found guilty of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Both men were sentenced to twelve years imprisonment.

Mohammedi also received a further one year consecutive imprisonment term for possession of class A drugs with intent to supply.

Detective Inspector Mark Davison, from the Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police Serious and Organised Crime Unit (SOCU,) said “I am delighted with the verdicts handed down to both men and believe they reflect the seriousness of being in possession of a loaded gun in this country.

“The case was clearly drugs related, and we will continue to pursue anybody that is involved in this level of criminality within the Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police areas.

“My thanks must go to the officer in charge of the case, Detective Constable Paul Hinton and the Crown Prosecution Service who did a very thorough job in preparing the case for court.”
