Man still in custody after raid on suspected brothel

A 51-year-old Chinese man is today (Thursday) still in custody after police raided a house in Cape Road, Warwick, on suspicion of it being used as a brothel.

The man was arrested along with a 38-year-old Chinese woman as part of a joint operation between police and the UK Border Agency on Monday.

Acting Sgt Trent McMurray said the two agencies had raided the property as a result of combining local and national intelligence.

After questioning, the two were taken in for questioning and the woman was later taken to an immigration detention centre.

It was only in August last year that a flat in Birch Meadow Close, part of The Spires scenic development in Saltisford was also raided as a result of tip-offs from neighbours who said the situation had been going on over the last three years.

The same address had also been raided in July, 2010.

District councillor Bob Dhillon (Con, Warwick West) said: “I was very shocked to learn of a possible brothel operating in Cape Road.

“I remember there was an incident in the town last year when arrests were made - I thought the problem had been dealt with.”
