Man jailed for almost four years after Leamington knife incident

A 21-year-old man has been jailed for almost four years for using a knife to wound another man in Leamington in the summer.

Ibrahim Diallo, 21, of no fixed address, will serve a total of 45 months in prison after being sentenced at Warwick Crown Court on Tuesday.

Diallo was charged with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm in connection with an incident which took place at the Pump Room on Tuesday August 11.

During the incident a man in his 20s sustained injuries to his left shoulder which are believed to have been caused by a bladed weapon.

He was treated at University Hospital Coventry for the injuries, which were not life changing or life threatening.

Diallo was immediately arrested by officers from Warwickshire Police, and subsequently charged and remanded in custody.

A silver lock knife was recovered from the scene.

Det Con Thomas Quinlan, of Warwickshire Police, said: “We welcome this result, which exemplifies how seriously knife crime is taken by both the police and the courts.

“Fortunately knife crime and other violent crimes are rare in Warwickshire but, when they do occur, we will act swiftly to ensure those responsible are brought to justice and the public is protected.

“Not only is it illegal to carry a knife in public without good reason, we would urge people to think very seriously about the consequences of carrying one - knife crime can ruin lives.”

A 17-year-old boy from Warwick was also arrested in connection with the offence is due to appear at Warwick Magistrates Court on December 23.

He was released on bail pending further enquiries and has now been charged with wounding with intent.
