Man cautioned after assault in Leamington night club

POLICE took quick action to secure evidence against a man suspected of an assault at a Leamington nightclub early yesterday (Tuesday November 6).

The disturbance began inside Evolve nightclub in Spencer Street at around 1.30am and spilled out into the street. A man was taken to hosptal for a gash to his chin and eyebrow.

CCTV operators tracked a suspect who tried to run from the scene and police arrested a 20-year-old man from Altrincham, Cheshire on suspicion of assault, questioning him the following morning.

He admitted the attack and received a caution after being shown CCTV footage and early witness statements secured by officers.

A police spokeswoman said: “We would like to thank the public who assisted us and the town’s CCTV operators who as well as gathering vital evidence by recording the assault, followed the male with their cameras as he attempted to run off, until officers managed to arrest him.”

The spokeswoman added that anyone who receives a caution may find that their current or future employers will be informed if they work in a position of trust or responsibility such as a teacher, care worker, taxi driver, soldier or doctor. Plans to live, work, study or holiday abroad may also be put on hold as some countries will not allow people who have been cautioned to visit.
