Leamington van theft prompts security warning

POLICE are warning people to take more care of their car and car keys following the theft of a van in Leamington on Sunday.

The white VW van was taken from an address in Boddington Close after burglars broke into the property and stole the keys.

A spokeswoman for Warwickshire Police said: “If you have a garage, always park your car inside when you are at home and lock the door. Always close and secure the gates on your driveway if you park your car there.

“Park your car facing towards the house, meaning the vehicle has to be reversed out. This may be a deterrent for anyone wanting to have a quick drive away.

“Use visible anti-theft devices such as a steering wheel lock - even when you are parked at home - and consider fitting a car alarm, ensuring a notice in the car window states there is one fitted to the vehicle. Always activate it when you leave your vehicle.”

Other advice included installing a tracker device which enables the car to be traced if it is stolen and to always keep car keys somewhere safe in the home and out of sight.

Anyone with any information about the incident on Sunday is asked to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 where the information can be given anonymously.
