Leamington Rehabilitation Hospital to have £6 million expansion

South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust has approved a £6.2 million development programme for the Leamington Rehabilitation Hospital.

This will include a new two storey, state-of-the-art, inpatient facility which will increase the number of beds available at the unit from 30 to 42.

Glen Burley, chief executive of South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I am pleased that we have been able to work with the Strategic Health Authority to secure this investment for the unit.

“Their work is remarkable and I am delighted that with this investment more patients will benefit from these services.”

The development will build upon the Acquired Brain Injury Unit’s recent designation as a ‘Level One’ national centre of excellence.

This classification means the department is recognised as one of the top ten units of this type in the country as it provides care to patients with highly complex rehabilitation needs that are beyond the scope of their district specialist services.

As part of its efforts to enhance services, the Trust is working with the Helen Ley Centre, which has recently been taken over by Castel Froma and offers day respite for and long-term care for people with conditions such as multiple sclerosis.

This collaboration will provide four extra ‘step out’ beds in a more appropriate setting for patients, who need less intensive care and are fit enough to be discharged, to continue and complete their rehabilitation programmes.
