Leamington man Kelvin Cyphus given indeterminate sentence for child rape

Kelvin Cyphus, 53, of Christine Ledger Square, will not be released from prison until such time as he can prove that he is no longer a danger to society.

On 4 November, at Warwick Crown Court, Cyphus pleaded guilty to seven offences, including five rapes of a female aged 11-13 years, penetration with a sexual aid on a female aged 11-13 years, and assault by penetration of an 11 year old female.

After pleading guilty, Cyphus was remanded in custody without bail, to re-appear at the court today (Friday) where he was sentenced to an indeterminate life sentence.

Warwickshire Police launched the investigation following an allegation by one of the girls who was 13 at the time, that Cyphus had been sexually abusing her for the last two years.

The investigation led to a further 12 year old girl disclosing that the suspect had sexually assaulted her.

Dc James Coleman said: “I am absolutely delighted at this sentence. This is a significant conviction and not only demonstrates that we take all reports of rape seriously but will proactively investigate such allegations to get the right outcome for survivors.

“I have spoken to both families who are delighted at the result.

“The two girls showed immense bravery throughout the investigation and will hopefully now be able move forward as a result of today’s sentence.”
