Leamington lecturer Jamie braved shave for Children with Cancer
A college lecturer has braved a shave to raise money for a charity which funds vital research into childhood cancer.
More than 100 students gathered in the reception area of Warwickshrie College’s Leamington site last week to watch Jamie Ward, the curriculum leader for furniture crafts, have his hair shaved off in aid of Children with Cancer UK .
Hair dressing and barbering lecturer tutor Nikki Brain guided barbering student James Ip through cutting Mr Ward’s hair.
Mr Ward said: “He said this was the first head shave he had done. He did a very good job and put me at ease.
“It was ironic I picked the coldest day this end of the year to shave my head but it was all in a good cause.
“My wife had bought a hat especially for the day and our two young daughters got a shock when they saw my new short hair.”
Mr Ward will be running the London Marathon to raise more funds for the charity in April next year.
He has been running for years but only distances of 10km, such as the Two Castles Run and The Regency Run so the marathon will present a tougher challenge.
The head shave raised £170 towards Mr Ward’s overall fundraising goal of £1,500.
