Labour candidate highlights fuel poverty

Parliamentary Labour candidate Lynnette Kelly is calling for more to be done to help people in Warwick and Lemaington to insulate homes this winter.

Ms Kelly, who is standing against Conservative Chris White in next year’s general election, has calculated that in the two towns there are 5,373 homes where occupants are in fuel poverty because their income doesn’t allow them to keep adequately warm at reasonable cost.

The prospective MP said: “With the glorious recent weather we’ve been enjoying it’s easy to forget just how big a problem this is in autumn and winter, especially for elderly and vulnerable members of our community.

“The latest Government statistics serve as a wake-up call - this is a major issue, especially with the cost of energy rising to much since 2010.”
