Kenilworth doctors' surgery undergoing major refurbishment

The plans include four new consulting rooms where patients can see their GP, a new reception area with electronic check-in facilities and better wheelchair access, a children’s area in the waiting room, and a ‘health station’ where patients can carry out routine health checks such as their weight, body mass index and blood pressure.

Additionally, the four current consulting rooms will be resized and fitted with the latest NHS specifications such as sensor taps and vinyl flooring to help infection control.

The refurbishment should also allow the surgery to cope with the seven-day working week for NHS GPs, as the new rooms should enable the centre to run more flexibly.

The work, which has been jointly funded by the practice and a grant from NHS England’s Primary Care Infrastructure Fund, started on Thursday January 21 and is expected to be completed by Thursday March 31.

According to the centre, the work has been planned carefully to ensure patients can access the centre’s services as much as possible, although the centre also patients who wish to see their GP during the work may have to be more flexible around what times they are able to visit.

Dr David Rapley, a GP at the centre, said: “We’ve been planning the improvements and expansion for almost two years and are really excited that work is about to begin.

“The designs will ensure that our staff are able to continue to provide excellent standards of care and that the centre is the fit for the future.

“We will do everything we can to minimise disruption during the works. Access to clinicians will not be reduced although patients may need to be more flexible about appointment times.”

The centre also say they will do everything they can to keep disruption and noise to a minimum while works are ongoing.
