The Salvation Army band and young carol singers from Crackley Hall School were among those who provided the musical entertainment.

Kenilworth churches combined to put on a nativity and a penny arcade and Punch and Judy show harked back to the Victorian period. A hog roast and hot punch were among the tasty delights on sale.

The annual Christmas Tree Festival at St Nicholas church also took place on the night.

Decorated trees by schools, church, community and business groups were on display and visitors voted for their favourite in three categories - pre-school, school age and adult with the results announced the next day and the trees stayed on display until the church’s Christingle service the following afternoon.

Proceeds made from visitors’ donations went to the Kenilworth PHAB Club.

More fundraising success was had by Classics Hair and Beauty in High Street with staff dressing as Father Christmas’ reindeer and raising £100 for the Helen Ley Care Centre by holding a lucky dip full of goodies.

Of course no Christmas event would be complete without a visit from Father Christmas and he arrived on his sleigh to meet children and hear their Christmas wishes while town mayor Cllr Felicity Bunker carried out the lights switch-on duties.
