Now patron of the event, Monty, who won the Channel 4 Superhuman contest and is known for his adventurous exploits on TV documentaries, is taking part in rugby matches at the festival, which takes place at the Old Leamingtonians RFC in Bericote Lane, Blackdown, from Friday May 10 to Sunday May 12.

Raising funds for Help for Heroes, the Royal British Legion and 353 - the not-for-profit cause set up by the family of the late Claverdon soldier Private Conrad Lewis, the three-day event, now in its fifth year, will include sport, music and family entertainment.

Proceedings kick off with a real ale and pie mini-festival and live music on the Friday night, followed by rugby tournaments - including teams from the armed forces - and a Spitfire and Hurricane memorial flypast on the Saturday, while there will be more rugby and a remembrance service on the Sunday and live music, displays, stalls, food and drink all weekend.

Monty Halls said: “It’s a fantastic weekend raising money for some very important causes.

“I am honoured to have the role of official festival patron and look forward to donning my rugby boots again.”

Richard Wormell, chairman of the Old Leamingtonians club, said: “The club is proud to be associated with Rugby For Heroes and fundraising for the charities it supports. I am looking forward to a rollocking good weekend of rugby and fun.”
