Cameras will roll this Saturday (August 13) for the programme, which brings together a street and a community in a massive fundraising effort for a local good cause.

The new series, called Street Auction, is presented by Paul Martin of Flog It! and will be broadcast on BBC One.

Last month residents of the area were asked to donate unwanted and unloved items to be sold during a ‘pop-up’ auction which will be hosted by Paul, right in the heart of their community.

The auction will form part of a street party which will have stalls of donated items such as cakes, bric-a-brac, books and plants, along with other fundraising activities and entertainment.

Proceeds from the stalls will be added to the total being raised, and at the end of the event the total will be announced.

Paul Martin said: “We are really looking forward to it. We met some wonderful people on our rummaging day and it makes you realise how keen people are to help in a community effort.

“It also makes you aware of the things you’ve got lying around that you’d be willing to part with for a good cause.

“We’ve found some great things in sheds and attics.

“The fantastic people of Monks Kirby have been incredibly generous and local people and have really got behind the event.

“We’ve had a wide range of generous donations, from a vintage sewing machine through to furniture and an antique bike.

“We hope lots of people will come along on the day and bring something to sell for the fund - whether it’s a cake you’ve baked or something you’ve fallen out of love with that can find a new home on one of our stalls.”

Everyone is welcome to attend the event, which will take place in St Edith’s Close, from 1.30pm-5pm.
