Future star Finch beats Byrne to claim county crown

Fourteen-year-old Josh Finch is the Warwickshire junior champion at 52kg after cruising to victory over Christ the King ABC's Francis Byrne.

The Kenilworth teenager boxed within himself but controlled the fight, showcasing his movement and jab to the delight of coach Edwin Cleary.

“We really like the look of Josh,” said Cleary. “He’s a real gem, trains as hard as anyone and always wants to improve.”

Finch moves on to the Midlands semi-finals in Birmingham this weekend.

Meanwhile, stablemate Danny Quartermaine faces another tough test tonight (Friday).

The 18-year-old, fresh from his English title defeat to Corey O’Regan, takes on England boxer Jordan Flynn at the Irish Centre in Birmingham.
