People in Kineton are hoping the creation of a Neighbourhood Development Plan will protect them from any unwanted development in and around the village.

On Saturday the village’s parish council held an open day to go alongside the ongoing consultation into the plan.

And constituency MP Jeremy Wright attended the event along with more than 160 people.

Mr Wright said: “Kineton is a vibrant community and the plan shows it is open to taking a fair share of the increased housing numbers necessary to support the growth in the district.

“I understand concerns about excessive numbers of new developments and unsustainable levels of new housing, particularly where the existing infrastructure is already stretched.

I have familiarised myself with the sites which the community might accept, and also those that it will not. i look forward to supporting the community and the plan through the next stages of development and consultation.”

Work has already started on Bloor Homes’ Kineton Meadows development in Southam Road which will include 90 new houses.

But residents are concerned about other applications including a proposed 90 houses in Banbury Road by SharbaHomes, Barwood’s proposal for 77 homes in Southam Road and 33 houses art Brooklands Farm.

On top of this, landowners have responded to the call for plots made by Stratford District Council.

This could all potentially lead to 593 new houses being built.

There are fears the increase of Kineton High School’s catchment area to include all south of the River Avon will lead to more coaches coming through the villages.

A statement on the kinetonresidents.co.uk website says: “Kineton is fast becoming another Wellesbourne without the roads or facilities to support it.”

In the development plan, which is in its consultation stage until Sunday January 18., the parish council has said it would support “measured, proportionate, timely and sustainable development to meet local requirement” and that it aims to support the “delivery of a housing growth strategy tailored to the needs and within the context of Kineton Parish”.
