Everyone wins in village arrangement

ONE village business has given a helping hand to another in efforts to provide good products for people in the area.

Rix Petroleum (Midlands) Ltd has presented a cheque for £190 to Gaydon Village Store - money raised through the company’s village oil club.

Claire Hamm, who founded the shop, said she plans to use the donation to buy new equipment. She said: “Gaydon lost its shop about 25 years ago so in 2008 we decided to set up a community shop.

“It is run entirely by volunteers and any profits are ploughed back into local community projects and good causes.

“Rix approached us with the idea of the village oil club. By promoting their heating oil we get a share of the sales and that money goes straight back into support the community, so everyone wins.”

By ordering fuel as a community, the oil club allows members to benefit from lower prices and they all pay the same low rate regardless of the volume they order. Rix donates a percentage of the profits back into community projects.

Paul Doherty, general manager at the firm, said: “By delivering to the members all on the same day we reduce our carbon footprint and traffic movements within the village. The members get oil at the lowest available price and a donation to projects.

“We like to think of it as a way businesses and communities can work together for the advantage of all. It is a pleasure to be able to donate this money to such a worthy cause.”

Gaydon Village Store is open Monday to Friday 9am to 1pm and 4pm to 7pm, on Saturdays from 8am to 5pm and on Sundays from 9am to noon.
