Emscote Road to reopen two weeks ahead of schedule as Warwick roadworks are completed

One of the main roads into Warwick is due to reopen to traffic at 4pm today - two weeks before the end of a planned 12 weeks of roadworks.

Water company Severn Trent had been replacing ageing sewers in Emscote Road since August, but has finished the works two weeks early.

Businesses have received letters stating the road will reopen today (Friday October 19) at 4pm.

The rumble of traffic cannot come too soon for Ray Port, who manages tyre garage Protyre.

He said the garage had lost passing trade and would be faced with winning back regular customers tempted away during the closure.

Mr Port added: “We can’t wait until 4pm today. It’s fantastic that it’s over early.”

But he also said it was not always obvious work was taking place, and questioned whether the work could have been finished earlier still.

Mr Port said: “It’s fantastic that it’s over early but it’s still been ten weeks.”

A statement is expected today from Severn Trent.
