Ellen takes a bow at Scout concerts

SOUTHAM Girl Guide Ellen Hetherington joined musicians from around the country as part of a double bill with the National Scout & Guide Symphony Orchestra last week.

The 16-year-old took part in a week of intensive rehearsals and other activities alongside 64 other young players aged between 12 and 25 at Bearwood College in Berkshire.

The orchestra ended the week with concerts at St Nicolas church in Newbury and Bearwood College Theatre.

Ellen said: “This week’s been absolutely fantastic – I’ve had so many amazing opportunities. Meeting people from all over the UK has been amazing and it’s only the magic of being a Guide that has made this possible. I’ve enjoyed learning to play my double bass already but I’ve never put it together in such a big group, and getting it all sorted in a week was a huge pressure.”
