Donation brings better technology to Warwick Hospital

A STATE-of-the-art microscope is helping clinicians at Warwick Hospital diagnose patients faster and more accurately, thanks to a £8,300 donation from the hospital’s League of Friends.

The new microscope will be used at the site’s genito urinary (GU) clinic for people who require confidential sexual health screening, treatment and advice.

Thanks to its advanced technology, more patients will be able to be seen at the clinic, while a camera attachment that allows samples to be seen on a screen will help teaching to nurses and medical students.

Jane Holmes, GU medicine manager, said: “The clinic is extremely grateful to the League of Friends for their donation. The microscope that we have purchased will allow us to make improvements in the care that we deliver, making the process for our patients quicker and less stressful.”

The League of Friends has raised more than £1 million for the South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the hospital, since it was set up in 1953. Thelma Atkins, the current chairman of the leage, said: “We are always looking at new ways to support Warwick Hospital. It is great that we are able to donate a piece of equipment that will help to provide excellent care to patients.”
