Courier fraud reported in Kenilworth

A courier fraud incident was reported in Kenilworth when an elderly lady received a call from an unknown man claiming to be an officer from the Serious Fraud Squad.

He told the lady that £800 had been taken from her account and she needed to call 999 immediately. No bank details were given and no requests for money were made over the phone.

Following similar incidents in Bishops Tachbrook, Warwickshire Police are urging people to remain vigilant, and are advising people that they would never ask for their PIN, send a courier to collect their card or ask them to leave cash in a public place.

Investigating officer PC Matt Collins said: “The scammers are motivated by greed and will take advantage of the good nature of victims, by convincing them they are helping to solve a crime.”

Anyone receiving similar calls should phone the police on 101.
