Calling last orders on Christmas spirit

Eathorpe people celebrated the end of Christmas with a Twelfth Night beer festival at the weekend.

And after calling time at the bar last Friday, the village gathered outside to turn off its Christmas lights.

The festival was a first for the Eathorpe people, who hold a charity switch-on ceremony each year for in aid of the village hall and other causes.

Organiser Sue Burt said: “We made more than £1,000 for each of our chosen charities Zoe’s Place and Help for Heroes this year, which is tremendous.”

Fellow organiser Graham Peck added: “The idea of a beer festival at the end was new, but certainly something we’ll repeat next year.

“It’s really cheering to see how many people turned out to help, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

“We’d like to say a big ‘thank-you’ to everyone who came along from Marton, Cubbington, Leamington and elsewhere and contributed so generously to our fundraising efforts.”
