Burglars used keys left in doors to get in

POLICE are urging people not to leave keys in locks after a series of burglaries in Whitnash.

Thieves attempted to break in through the patio door of a house in Tachbrook Road between 3pm on Saturday November 26 and 11am the following day.

On Wednesday November 16 between 4.45pm and 9pm, burglars broke into a house in Moorhill Road through patio doors at the back of a house and made off with cash and jewellery.

And between 8pm and 9.25pm that day, thieves smashed a window in the back door of a house in Greville Smith Avenue and stole a computer, cash and jewellery.

The thefts were discussed at Whitnash Town Council’s November meeting, where councillors urged people to ensure their homes were secure over Christmas.

Sgt Allison Wiggin of Warwick Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “The message for these burglaries is not to leave the keys in the patio door as windows are being smashed and it is then easy for the offenders to reach through and use the keys to open the door.”

A campaign to encourage the public to report anyone selling stolen goods was launched yesterday (Thursday).
